Theme 1: Project 2 - Health impacts from bioaerosols from waste composting facilities and intensive farming

This is of particular concern to Defra and the Environment Agency (EA) as the evidence base on which to regulate composting on health grounds is lacking. Work will be undertaken on exposure assessment to develop a dispersion model for sites in England although it is recognised that differences in site types and variability in bioaerosol concentrations may mean that a single model may not be feasible.

This enhanced exposure information will be used to design a national health outcome study using SAHSU data, including asthma and respiratory hospital admissions and low birthweight. This project links with the bioaerosols project in Theme II/Project 3.

For 2018/19 all work will continue under the Theme II project except the epidemiology study.
